Is it possible to treat Sex Addiction with psychedelic therapy? The simple answer is... we will have to wait and see.
In anticipation of approval through the FDA, it is anticipated that MDMA will be approved for therapy towards the end of 2022 - early 2023. Will the treatment of sex addiction make the list? In most cases of Sex Addiction, skilled clinicians note that Sex Addiction is experienced in the context of a cascade of symptoms which can be linked and associated with trauma, attachment disorders, neglect, PTSD, Anxiety, and other DSM 5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth edition) disorders. MDMA is a wonderfully notorious psychedelic which can result in participants reaching an extraordinary state where in the opening of "heart emotions" and connectivity to others is prevalent and can be lasting after 1 or several dosing sessions coupled with structured psychedelic psychotherapy.
While the historical cultural context for psychedelics has been to "demonize" psychedelics and create fear in their use, under controlled and professional administration - this experience can be "cathartic, spiritual & life changing". This conceptualized use of psychedelics in the treatment of Sex Addiction I anticipate, will be a synergistic coupling and am excited about the promise of a curative treatment in the use of MDMA assisted psychotherapy for the treatment of sex addiction. I have personally currently completed the anticipated requirements and obtained the appropriate training certifications: 1 year of requirements for becoming a Psychedelic Assisted Therapist through CIIS (California Center for Intergral Studies), MAPS training for MDMA Psychedelic Assisted Therapy (MAPS training A-D), and Understanding Ketamine for Ketamine Assisted Therapy (KAP), for the utilization of Ketamine, MDMA and additional psychedelic medicines in the therapeutic setting. Having reached these preemptive goals in anticipation of FDA approval, thousands of like minded physicians, nurses, and therapists share a common goal, upon approval, to: develop access points - where we will integrate the use of psychedelics in treatment as appropriately guided by the regulators and, as they become available, use these medicines as "break through" treatments.
Learn more about MDMA and psychedelic therapy from www.MAPS.org and stay tuned for the approval and possible research study opportunities. While I am trained and well versed in psychedelics and their potential uses and study outcomes, we warriors are waiting on the side line to get fully in the practice of utilizing the potential of these therapeutics for application and outcomes.
\What can you do now? VOTE accordingly, advocate, research for yourself, open yourself up to the safe and controlled professional use of psychedelics.
Using psychedelics (which are currently restricted by the FDA) outside of professionally trained clinicians is not advised! A healthy respect for the use of psychedelics must be maintained in order for preliminary access, and continued access to heal the masses - illicit use may hamper efforts. Should everyone have access to psychedelics? Anyone with a respect for this medicine would agree - NO. There are contraindications with certain mental health experiences and medical conditions.
Can we make them accessible to the masses? YES, and that is the goal. It will take time, advocacy, support, and acceptance. The aspirations for those pioneering efforts for the safe and legal use of psychedelics agree that this MEDICINE will be available, affordable and responsibly used for the purposes it was intended: individual growth, diminishing the global suffering we encounter, and a more connected and enriched experience of life and connection to ourselves and others. What can you do NOW to ensure you have access in the near future? Simply educate yourself and then spread the word - Again, VOTE for representatives who favor decriminalizing and rescheduling psychedelics.
